Asbestos Awareness when Renovating Your Home

Have an older home? Was it built prior to 1990? If you’re thinking that maybe it’s time to renovate your home, whether undertaking some minor or major work on your own OR bringing in a builder to do the work for you, asbestos is something that needs to be considered and assessed BEFORE starting. There may be a number of areas that could be effected which require a specialist containment and removal.

Looking back on the effects of Asbestos, before the dangers were known, thousands of asbestos-containing materials were used in domestic and commercial buildings, vehicles and plant including electrical switchboards and meters.

Did you know, many properties built or renovated before 1990 are likely to contain asbestos materials. If you’re not sure if you’re building contains asbestos, it’s best to always play it safe and take the right precautions before starting any work.

When asbestos products are disturbed, broken, sanded or cut harmful asbestos fibres are released into the air, putting the health of yourself and others at risk. This includes using high pressure water on asbestos roofs, fences and walls.
