The NDIS is Australia’s first national Scheme for people with disability. It provides funding directly to individuals.

As a service provider for the NDIS, Ben Campbell Building Group, is now certified to help people on the NDIS get the home modifications they need and deserve.

What is the NDIS?

It is the National Disability Insurance Scheme in Australia. According to the Department of Australia Human Services, there are around 4.3 million Australians who have a disability. The aim of the NDIS is to provide about 460,000 Australians aged under 65, who have permanent and significant disability with funding for supports and services. For many people, it will be the first time they receive the disability support they need. From a building perspective this means we are helping people modify their homes to be more practical for everyday living, keeping people in their homes longer, and safely.

Who is eligible?

The NDIS has a set of criteria which will help persons find out if they are eligible or not. Eligible persons must be between the age of 7 and 65, live in Australia and have an Australian residency, and show a need for current support or future support. How is BCBG involved?

The common home is not designed with disability features and that can make living in one difficult and frustrating for a person with disabilities. However, with the NDIS, builders like us, are certified to do home modifications under this scheme. We can make modifications, or renovations, under a plan that will make living easier and more independent, keeping people at home longer and out of unnecessary aged care facilities.

Support funded by the NDIS will help by allowing us to do home modifications to the participant’s own home or a private rental property and on a case-by-case basis in social housing, and social and community housing.

What counts as modifications?

According to the NDIS, home modifications are changes to the structure, layout or fittings of a participant’s home so they safely access it and move around comfortably in areas they frequently use.
